Lata Mangeshkar (born on 28 September 1929) is an Indian artist, and incidental music-arranger. She is one of the best-known and most regarded playback vocalists in India. Mangeshkar's vocation began in 1942 and has traversed more than seven decades.
She has recorded tunes for over a thousand Hindi movies and has sung melodies in more than thirty-six territorial Indian dialects and outside dialects, however principally in Marathi and Hindi.
She is the senior sister of artists Asha Bhosle, Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar. She is the second vocalist to have ever been granted the Bharat Ratna, India's most elevated non military personnel honor.
